D&L Trail - Delaware Canal Towpath

Trail Description

The Delaware Canal Towpath extends from Bristol to Easton, once trod by teams of mules pulling cargo-laden boats, also serves visitors on foot, bicycle, skis, and horseback. It is one of four connecting trails that make up the 165-mile D & L Trail, the backbone of the corridor. Unfortunately, the trail was seriously damaged by floods in 2004, and entire sections of the trail have been closed. Currently there are three sections that are open to the public: Upper Black Eddy to Smithtown, Virginia Forrest recreation area to Center Bridge (pedestrians only), Center Bridge to New Hope (Lock 11). Even these open sections are overgrown and visitors should expect rough conditions. Make sure to check the official website for updates as repair work is ongoing and access is subject to change.
