Trail Description

The Ohio River Water Trail is a 69-mile trail that meanders through three states, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio. The main stretch of the water trail extends from the Three Rivers Water Trail out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the West Virginia-Ohio border at Newell, West Virginia and East Liverpool Ohio. Recently, the Ohio River Water Trail was recognized as a National Recreation Trail, a distinction designated by the National Park Service and the Department of the Interior. The Ohio River has a rich cultural and historic heritage that can be ascertained by visiting the plentiful museums, historical markers, heritage sites and riverfront attractions along the trail. The Ohio River Trail Council has compiled several “Suggested Trips” detailing fun and educational excursions along the river trail, along with a map showing the various interesting stops along the way. These can be easily accessed at the PA Fish and Boat Commission’s website at the following URL: https://pfbc.pa.gov/WaterTrail.htm.
